It’s been confirmed that the comedian just signed a $40 million deal with Netflix. Wait, let us share that number again … $40 million. Rock signed a deal with the multinational entertainment company to produce two stand-up specials — $20 million per special.
Chris will start taping in 2017, but it’s unclear if the special will air before starting production on special number two.
“Chris Rock is a beloved actor and director, and his remarkable stand-up makes him comic royalty,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “There is no one like him, and Netflix offers the global platform and creative freedom that will serve as a perfect home for someone with his incredible talent.”
This will be the first comedic return of the Emmy Award winner in eight years and the first departure from HBO, which he’s worked with for 20 years.
Rock has yet to respond to the new venture.
