A Pennsylvania police officer is unemployed today after she posted a picture on Snapchat with a caption that reads: “I’m the law today n*gga.”
McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko took to Facebook to announce that Officer Melissa Adamson had been terminated over her inappropriate social media conduct. “This post displays a degree of conduct and character that is far different from what I would expect from an officer in this city,” he wrote.
The Pitcairn Police Department also took to Facebook to address the controversy, releasing this statement:
“There has been a picture circulating around of an ex-female employee of the Pitcairn Police Department. As the picture alone does not constitute misconduct, it is symbolic speech and protected under the First Amendment. However, it is the content of the text in the picture which is unacceptable. The Pitcairn Police Department holds high integrity for the community we serve and this type of conduct will not be tolerated.”
“I’m not a racist. That’s not how I plan on portraying myself,” Adamson told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. The disgraced officer claims a rival cop leaked the picture, which was taken several months ago, to get her in trouble. “An altercation happened between me and a former police officer, and he’s bringing up his dirt, ruining my career, which has been done,” she said.
“Everyone that knows me knows I don’t have a racist bone in my body,” Adamson said. “And people who don’t know me, I can understand why it was misconstrued to where it looks racist. But like I said, everyone who knows me knows I’m not racist.”
Adamson added, “I’m sorry for who I did offend. It was not my intention. I can’t express how sorry I am for how I made you feel — emotionally, physically. Again, it wasn’t my intention.”
Apology accepted or nah?
