Nicki Minaj has joined forces with Katy Perry for a new track called, “Swish Swish.” The song, however, is now being deemed a Taylor Swift diss track. So we wonder: Was this all planned out?
On the track, set to appear on Perry’s upcoming album, Witness, Katy is accused of addressing the beef between she and Taylor. “Don’t you come for me/No, not today/you’re calculated/I’ve got your number/Because you’re a joke/and I’m a courtside killer queen,” she sings.
While many are calling the track a follow up to Taylor’s popular hit “Bad Blood”, we can’t help but forget that Nicki and Taylor also once had bad blood.
Back in July 2015, the pair had a mini Twitter feud following the nomination announcements for the MTV Video Music Awards.
At the time, Nicki expressed her disappointment via the social media website that her video for “Anaconda” or “Feeling Myself” was not nominated for Video of the Year. She tweeted: “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”
Instantly, Swift thought Nicki’s comments were directed towards her. “@nickiminaj I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to put women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot,” Taylor fired back.
Nicki doesn’t directly address the country star on her verse, but if the track is indeed aimed at Taylor, is it safe to say Nicki was there for the big assist?
It’s also worth noting that Nicki did mention her previous rap beefs, most notably, the recent war with Remy Ma. “Silly rap beefs just get me more checks,” she raps.
