There’s no denying Spiderman Homecoming is the best Spiderman flick to hit theaters in a while. But what we are raving about, particularly, is this cast. From Zendaya to Donald Glover to Jacob Batalon this is the most diverse Marvel film to hit the big screen … and according to director Jon Watts that was of the utmost importance.
“I mean Peter Parker is from Queens, and Queens is like one of the most diverse places in the world so I just wanted it to represent where he is actually from and feel like what it actually looks like,” Watts told HipHollywood during the films press junket.
“I think one of the cool things that Jon did is cast who’s best for role, not based on where they are from,” added British actor Tom Holland who plays Spiderman.
In the film Watts also makes Parker’s love interest a black girl (actress Laura Harrier) and she’s not only the hottest but the smartest girl in school. Meanwhile Hollywood “It” girl Zendaya, who plays Parker’s classmate Michelle, serves up many unexpected laughs and is set to have a much bigger role in the follow-up films.
“You know what I think is cool about her is that she is different and also super intellectual and outspoken,” said the Disney star.
Then of course there’s Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine and Hannibal Burruss who also have significant roles and will definitely pop up in the sequel.
In the meantime we think Spiderman and his amazing friends are worth a trip to the theater this weekend.
