Lil Wayne is now a member of the Roc Nation family. The New Orleans native broke the news during a show Tuesday night at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
“Is it cool if I just say it? It’s the Roc,” Wayne said. “You know I’m a member of that team now.”
After sharing the news, Wayne put up the Roc’s diamond hand sign then went back to performing for the packed out show.
Apparently he couldn’t hold the news much longer. Sources tell HipHollywood that the deal has been in the works for some time and Wayne is very excited.
Back in January, Wayne took to the stage and teased fans about his alleged union with Roc Nation, saying “When you see me, it’s YMROC.” The rapper also referenced the deal at Tyler the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Festival last year.
Weezy has wanted to work with Jay Z for years and even signed a partnership with Tidal back in 2015. This will be his first new label deal since signing with Cash Money Records when he was 15 years old.
Wayne has been estranged from Cash Money Records for more than two years and is suing the label for $51 million. Meanwhile, he has not been able to drop new music including the highly anticipated album, Tha Carter V.
He told HH during our sit-down back in October that he wasn’t retiring, or giving up on recording music.
