John Mayer, Dave Chapelle Unite To Honor The Late Charlie Murphy

Pals John Mayer and Dave Chapelle reunited on Wednesday night to pay tribute to the late Charlie Murphy.

During John’s show in Columbus, Ohio, the singer called out his comedian friend, which was a surprise to the fans.

When Chapelle made his way out, he of course praised Mayer before tickling the ivory himself. Dave then took a moment to remember Murphy, who was most known for his skits on the Chapelle’s Show.

“My good friend Charlie Murphy passed away this morning and everybody in company is heartbroken,” he told the crowd. “John, if you would … there was a night maybe four months ago when we were at Hotel Cafe in LA — you went to the piano and you sang a song and the song that you sang that night reminded me of my friend, Charlie Murphy.”

As John began to play, Dave said, “RIP Charlie Murphy, we love you, we loved your comedy, we loved your storms and we loved your spirit.”

Charlie died on Wednesday morning after battling leukemia. He was 57,

His family said in a statement Wednesday night that their “hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle and friend Charlie. Charlie filled our family with love and laughter and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers. We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us.”
