Every performer knows that while on stage, you might get slapped with a few hecklers and obnoxious antics by fans around the venue. But for Kelani, there is one name that should never be uttered during a show.
During Kehlani’s concert in Tucson, Ariz., on Monday, the singer kicked out one fan who literally yelled the name of her ex-boyfriend, Cavaliers player Kyrie Irving. While on stage, you here a man scream, “Kyrie!” Instantly, the Oakland native lost control and called for security to kick the man out.
After the incident, the singer took to social media to defend her reaction. She wrote: “After a year of being tormented, harassed, people sending me death threats/showing up to festivals in jersesys throwing shit at me and chanting names … I finally stood up for myself.”
She added, “After a year of depression and therapy, moving away to a new city because of it, I finally stood up for myself … It felt good as hell to do what I did.”
Khelani and Kyrie had a short romance back in 2016, but their relationship ended soon before the singer’s suicide attempt. At the time, it was rumored that Khelani’s failed effort to end her life was over folks thinking she cheated on the Cleveland Cavaliers player with PartyNextDoor.
The chatter of the pair going behind the Cavaliers back was all over this snapshot post by PND of them in bed together.
It’s clear the chanting of Kyrie’s name brings up serious emotions … but is it fair to kick a paying fan out of a show because you don’t like what’s being said?
