Mark Wahlberg had a little fun in London over the weekend recreating the Spice Girls hit ‘Wannabe’ with a few journalists. HipHollywood was there when it all went down at the St. Pancras Hotel on the very steps the Spice Girls shot the video. But according to Wahlberg that’s about the extent of his return to music and his famous moniker Marky Mark. “No, no I’m done, but it was fun directing the Spice Boys,” he joked.
Wahlberg, who burst on the scene in 1991 with his hit single ‘Good Vibrations’ said making the transition to acting was an uphill battle and hip-hop stars like himself, Ice Cube and Will Smith (to name a few) were lucky to be taken seriously.
“It was unacceptable when were trying to do that and be taken seriously and be successful. And vice versa, musicians wanting to make movies and actors wanting to be rock stars and R&B stars it was unacceptable, but I think Will (Smith) and other guys kind of paved the way.”
“But what I couldn’t do was do both,” he continued. “I had to say I’m just going to focus on making movies. Others guys were able to do both … but I felt like in order to be taken seriously as an actor I needed to just focus on acting.”
And it definitely has paid off, the action-star can be seen reprising his role in Transformers: The Last Knight in theaters now.
