Maxwell Proves He’s The King Of R&B Grammy Nominations



For many of us, 2016 could be described as disruptive, chaotic, unpredictable or melancholic. For Maxwell however, 2016 has been the year of resurgence. The Brooklyn-born crooner is currently wrapping up a world tour with Mary J Blige, promoting a critically-acclaimed new album and riding the wave of his 13th Grammy-nomination. The golden nod is for the singer’s summer single, “Lake By the Ocean”. The track, featured on his blackSUMMERS’night album, is up for Best R&B song.

With the nomination, Maxwell continues to further his place among soul music’s elite. With a career that spans over two decades, he’s also proven a rare talent with the sort of poise and endurance needed for extended relevance in a fickle industry. While most artists see their work and fan base decline over the years, Maxwell’s Bordeaux-like aging has cultivated a symbiotic relationship with his followers.

With that being said, we’re revisiting the many wonders Maxwell has blessed us with over the years; tunes also recognized for their artistry by The Recording Academy and by some parents for their newborns, or depending on when they boarded the Maxwell train, teenagers.

Maxwell’s “Whenever Wherever Whatever” was nominated for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance back in 1998.
