Barber is a 26-year-old Army Reserve and IT analyst from DC who knew just how to respond when asked whether or not the Pentagon’s decision to open up all combat roles to women had “put political correctness over our military’s ability to perform.”

“As a woman in the United States Army, I think it was an amazing job by our government to allow women to integrate into every branch of the military,” she said. “We are just as tough as men. As a commander of my unit, I’m powerful, I am dedicated and it is important that we recognize that gender does not limit us in the United States.”

According to the pageant’s website, Barber, who loves to dance and hike, “commissioned as a Quartermaster Officer in 2011 and is currently a Logistics Commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade, Maryland.”

One of the top highlights of the night was when the organization poked fun at the December Miss Universe controversy when host, Steve Harvey, announced the wrong winner.

Luckily for this time’s host, Terrence Jenkins, all ran smoothly.

Falling right behind Barber was first runner-up Chelsea Hardin from Hawaii and second runner-up Emanii Davis from Georgia.
