If you watched Dear White People, the film, then you know precisely what you’ll get from the new Netflix series of the same name. If you’re one who missed the film, then you’re in for quite a treat…
The full trailer for the DWP series has dropped and it’s every bit as good as the film. Uncomfortable conversations, racial confrontations, racism, prejudice, privilege, it has it all … which is bound to have a few (or few hundred thousand) folks up in arms. Here’s how Variety describes the controversial show:
The series is an adaptation of writer and director Justin Simien’s 2014 feature film of the same name. Simien wrote all 10 half-hour episodes and directed the premiere. It tells the story of a diverse group of students of color experiencing campus life at a fictional Ivy League university dominated by white students. The series stars Logan Browning, Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori, Ashley Blaine Featherson and Marque Richardson. Brandon P. Bell will reprise his role from the film as Troy Fairbanks, a political science student campaigning to become the first black student president.
Check out the trailer below. Oh, and for anybody who’s mad, DWP star Logan Browning had this to say earlier this year…
Dear White People will debut on Netflix on April 28.
