Kevin Hart is embracing his inner child in the new animated film Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, and his two kids Hendrix and Heavan think he’s the coolest dad.
The Hart siblings are huge fans of the wildly popular children series, but Kevin was wasn’t the one reading it to them. Fact is, the 37-year-old comedian is not a fan of reading to the kiddies and jokingly told us they have to figure it out for themselves.
“First of all I’m not reading no book to my kids, you can figure it,” he said with a huge laugh. “Secondly, If you think I love to read you got another thing coming.”
Apparently Hart gets a little sleepy after prolonged periods of reading, and was even annoyed reading the audio book to his new memoir I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons. “I wrote a book, and then had to read the audio book for like 5 hours. I was pissed. I couldn’t do it, I get too sleepy.”
But Hart, who plays elementary schooler George in Captain Underpants, wasn’t the only cast member who didn’t read the book before taking on the role.
Ed Helms who plays both the sinister Principal Krupp and superhero Captain Underpants told us he wasn’t familiar with the book initially, but is now a huge fan.
“When I got offered the movie, I was aware of the book series, but I had never read one of them. So I just immersed my self in the universe and I loved it. I think it’s just incredible,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nick Kroll who voices the hilarious professor Poopypants and Thomas Middleditch who plays prankster Harold — George’s best friend — let us in on what they were like in grade school. Check out the video above.
